In A Nutshell: Furiously Fast Edition

The Fast & The Furious- good characters and performances, fun race scenes, solid film overall. 4.5/5

2 Fast 2 Furious- Not necessarily good but by no means horrendous. Even if it didn’t work, you can tell the cast and crew were having fun and were trying. 2.5/5

Fast & Furious- Not great but this is clearly when they got their act together and made a proper sequel. Nice to actually get the main cast members, even though Letty is “killed” pretty early on. 3.5/5

Fast Five- The Rock really is a savior of franchises isn’t he? This is where things get really good. A good, character driven story with a lot of fun action and racing scenes. 4.5/5

Fast & Furious 6- None of the movies thus far have had particularly memorable villains, but Luke Evans fixed that up greatly. Great to have Letty back. Lots of great character moments but I find it disappointing that from the end of 5 onward, Mia just becomes a worried mother character and doesn’t really get to do anything. 4.5/5

The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift- (groans) This is the only Fast & Furious movie I actually dislike. First off, why is it considered a sequel? At best it’s a spinoff. It should’ve been called Tokyo Drift: A Fast & Furious Story. Second, this movie is BORING!!! Say what you want about any of the films, but at least they have a consistent pace and there’s enough action and racing to keep you at least somewhat entertained. The pacing is awful, the racing is bland and the characters are annoying. I couldn’t even finish it so I’m not even gonna rate it.

Furious 7- This was the first of the series I ever saw and it’s honestly my favorite and Paul Walkers send off was beautifully done. 4.75/5

The Fate of the Furious- The first half, while not necessarily bad, there are times, particularly with dialogue, where I felt like I was watching a Fast & Furious parody that was just lucky enough to get the cast from the actual movies. Only other issue I have is that Deckard Shaw’s(Stathams character) redemption felt rushed I get the idea behind why he does what he does, but I would’ve liked it to have more development. Other than that, it’s solid, even if it’s not as good as the last few movies. Vin Diesel gives his best performance yet and Charlize Theron as Cipher is by far the best villain of the series. And you are not gonna see it coming when you find out why Dom goes rogue in this one. 4.25/5
