Storks Review

Okay, just so we’re clear, what I’m about to say does not directly connect to my actual opinions of this movie. How did this movie not get torn to shreds by critics? Am I the only one who thinks look like an easy target for snobby critics? I say that I feel like that because there are scenes that have very fast paced humor. I’m not saying critics can’t enjoy fast paced humor, nor am I saying I didn’t enjoy it. But the way it’s executed looks like something I would see a critic complain about. But no. This film gets a lot of praise and I’ve even seen some people call it the funniest movie of last year. Again, this doesn’t really connect to my thoughts on the film. I just wanted to address what I think might have caused my mixed feelings about this movie when I first saw this.

So now that I’ve gotten a chance to see it again, what do I think of it? Well, the more I think about it, there’s really nothing wrong with it. It’s a solid movie that’s entertaining for both kids and adults.

The characters are great and it has an incredible voice cast. The animation, while not exactly Pixar, is very colorful and, as I said before, has a very fast paced sense of humor. And while I don’t think it’s laugh-out-loud hilarious, there a lot of really good jokes.

I don’t have any issues with it aside from a few very minor nitpicks, most of which I’m slowly starting to forget. So, how come I’m hesitating to say I love it or that it’s fantastic? Maybe I eventually will come to say one or both of those two things about it, but I think what’s holding me back is, again, I’m just so surprised that so many critics enjoyed it. I mean for crying out loud, (slight spoilers) there’s this pack of wolves in the movie that seem to have this strange hive mind that pretty much turns them into the micro bots from Big Hero 6. So this might be a movie I will need to do a second review of at some point.

As for right now, I’ll give it a solid 4/5… um… eggs? See?! I’m so baffled by it that I can’t even come up with a rating pun.

Anyway, stay tuned for my first comic book review as I take a look at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Comic Adaptation. And after that, I don’t know. I’ll find something to dig my claws into.
