We now come to what I consider to be the most underrated of the Star Wars movies. Okay, I’m not saying this movie is spectacular, but I there’s honestly a lot to love here.

Let’s talk about the voice acting first. The only actors that reprise their roles from the live action movies are Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO and Christopher Lee as Count Dooku. The rest are voiced by new actors. And a lot of them do pretty good impressions of their live action counterparts. Tom Kane and Ian Abercrombie are amazing as Yoda and Palpatine. I could’ve sworn that Frank Oz and Ian McDiarmid had returned. Most of the other voice actors, like James Arnold Taylor, the voice of Obi-Wan, and Catherine Taber, the voice of Padme, give great performances too, apart from a few questionable line delivery choices. They do decent interpretations of the live action actors while still making the roles they’re own. Then there’s Matt Lanter who voices Anakin. The performance itself is good, but it’s completely different from Christiansen’s voice and performance. But considering all the hate Christiansen gets for his acting in the live action movies, I don’t blame Lanter for wanting to make it entirely different. But then there’s Dee Bradley Baker as the voice of all the clone troopers. Again, the performance itself is good. The way he manages to give each trooper, the ones that get focus anyway, their own personality is amazing. But he’s not even trying to sound like the troopers in the live action movies. I love Dee Bradley Baker. I think he’s one of the best voice actors in the business. And I know I just said that it made sense for Matt Lanter to make his performance different. But I’ve never seen Temuera Morrison get any hate. In fact, I sometimes see people say they think he was one of the few good things about the prequels. But again, I like the performance(s) he gives, both in this and in the series, enough that I can overlook. And it’s definitely the lesser of the inconsistency’s that surface when you try to connect it to Revenge of the Sith, but I’ll get to that later. The new characters, Ahsoka Tano and Asajj Ventress, are also great, even if they don’t really get proper time to shine until the show came along.
There’s a lot of cool action scenes. Towards the end there’s a pretty sweet duel between Anakin and Dooku. It’s far from the being the best duel ever but it’s definitely better than their duel in Attack of the Clones.
The only real issue with the movie is that the animation is inconsistent. Sometimes it looks good, but other times it’s really off. It’s hard to explain. Any story issues only arise from the fact that the stories told on the show are told out of order. The best example being that sometimes characters who died in a previous season would appear alive and well a season or two later.
As I said, It’s nothing groundbreaking and it really didn’t need to be in theaters, even though I’m all for things like TV specials getting theatrical showings. But it’s a perfectly fine and entertaining movie. Star Wars: The Clone Wars gets 3.5 out of 5 lightsabers.
